May 09, 2007 · What are the history and value of this bowl (9 1/4" diam.), which is marked LIMOGES, FRANCE? M.H., EAU CLAIRE, WISC. In 1768, kaolin, a variety of ultra-fine clay, often white in hue and used for making porcelain, was found outside Limoges, France, a city located about 200 miles south of Paris.
The back of the plate has "L_____ Porcelain" (I can't read the name) in blue-green letters, as well as "Art Ware, Sebring Pottery Co., Sebring, Ohio." in gold letters. There is a signature, "L. Shelley" to the right of the fireplace. The plate is just over 9" in diameter.
